Welcome to The Log House at Sweet Trees!
The north view of our Log House is what you will see as you come down the driveway. The oldest part of the house was probably built in the 1780's by Pioneer Moats. We started working on the restoration in 1974. More than 30 years later we're still working.
You can see from this photo how the 2000 addition reaches east, including the screened porch and the Master bedroom’s dormer window.
North Bend Golf Course is three blocks north of our house. This nine hole course is open to the public and has both clubs and carts that you can rent; and a club house that serves simple breakfasts and sandwiches. For more information you can phone (304) 643 2206. Their address is 945 West High Street, Harrisville, West Virginia 26362.
Barbara and Russell Rogerson are the owners/operators of The Log House at Sweet Trees. Russell loves making specialty waffles and biscuits for breakfast guests. Barbara is famous for her whole grain specialty treats and home made bread. Sweet Trees is what the family calls this land because of the abundance of maple trees, perfect for making home made maple syrup for your morning pancakes. Both Barbara and Russell are retired from careers in Ritchie County Public Schools. Barbara taught art for twenty-three years. Russell started his career in Ritchie County Schools as a band/vocal music and math teacher. Russell moved rapidly into administration and retired as the Treasurer. Barbara completed her studies at United Theological Seminary in their new location at Trotwood, Ohio; graduating with a Master in Specialized Ministry in Digital Culture in May 2007. Barbara was commissioned by the West Virginia Annual Conference as a Deacon in June 2008. New and exciting learning for Barbara and Russell includes Russell's work in ancient Hebrew and both are learnng and teaching about Biblical Story Telling. God calls Barbara and Russell to this ministry of hospitality where guests can find rest, restoration, and Sabbath time in the beautiful Applachian hills of West Virginia.
This is a photograph of the Rogerson's cat Earl Grey. He is, as all cat lovers know, the real owner of everything here!
