The faculty had its first pupil to complete a highschool curriculum in 1891. Thirteen years later, in 1904, eight students graduated and two extra first-floor class rooms and a second-story auditorium have been added. High school lessons had been moved to a brand new constructing in 1924, while grades 1-8 remained. The Ritchie County Board of Education started using the building as workplaces in 1965, upon development of a model new elementary college. The Board continued utilizing the constructing until 1995, after which the Ritchie County Historical Museum group was established and purchased the constructing.
